A blast from the past…(so to speak)
I’m not posting because I’ve been thrown into a bit of a panic. I’ll post the reason later tonight.
But I was looking through the humor folder at work for something a friend asked me to find for him, and I stumbled across this…
I don’t know whether this falls under a joke, a time capsule, irony, satire, political commentary, proof against revisionists, or what…

The President is meeting with Saddam Hussein regarding the recent
crisis. They are meeting in Hussein’s Baghdad capital, and halfway
through the meeting Hussein hits a button on his armrest. A fake arm
flies out and hits Clinton in the face.
A little while later he hits another button and Clinton ducks, only to
be kicked in the butt. A while later, this happens again. Clinton is
angry, calls a break, and they decide to meet again later, in
Washington.
When Hussein comes to DC, they sit in Clinton’s office. A few minutes
into the discussions, Clinton hits a button, Hussein ducks, but
nothing happens. A few minutes later, Clinton hits another button, Hussein
ducks again, but still nothing happens. This happens a third time, and
Hussein, by this point, is angry and paranoid.
He gets up and shouts “Enough of this! I’m going back to Baghdad!”
Clinton looks up and displays a funny-looking smirk to the Iraqi
leader. Then quite calmly replies, “What Baghdad?”

I happen to really like her blog. It seems that she’s on a similar mission to mine. And that is (basicaly) to spread the knowledge that she found beneficial and toss in a little about herself along the way. She’s a computer programmer, though not in Delphi, near as I can tell (I guess no one’s perfect.) She’s got at least one WP plugin posted, the Favicon Manager WordPress. This plugin provides an easy way to get ANY image associated with your website to be your FavIcon. It also associates your icon with your feeds – a nice feature.
We both post our reading libraries too, but mine are slanted decidedly more to the fictional side of the scale. Heck, she even uses GAIM. But I warn you, if you thought my posts got to be long winded… you should be prepared. Digital Ramble is right! 😉 All in all, Digital Ramble is a good tech blog with some helpful hints, tips and tools.

Whoa! Bush makes surprise visit to Baghdad. Cool….

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — President Bush arrived Tuesday in Baghdad on an unannounced visit to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
Bush and his top officials had begun a two-day summit at Camp David, Maryland, on Monday to discuss Iraq’s progress and had scheduled a teleconference with al-Maliki for Tuesday morning.
But Bush secretly left for Iraq on Monday night to see al-Maliki in person.
Bush’s visit comes less than a week after a U.S. airstrike killed terrorist leader Musab al-Zarqawi and the Iraqi parliament approved the prime minister’s nominations for three key security posts in the new Cabinet, ending a stalemate among politicians over these positions.

Had those posts been filled sooner, Bush would have made the trip months earlier, [U.S. Presidential counselor Dan] Bartlett said.

I caught this news article last week and it definately raised my eyebrowse as this is a medicine i’ve had perscriptions for both Serevent and Advair for the past two years. I haven’t taken Advair at all this year nor much of the latter half of last year, since my symptoms have decreased. Still…
A friend of my wife had an asthma attack last year while on vacation. She’s preped herself for a month before hand – dilegently taking her battery of medicines. Near the end of the vacation, the family left giving her a couple days on her own. That’s when she had what I understand was her first and only asthma attack during the vacation. It was bad enough that a woman in a nearby room heard her and called for an ambulance. By the time the paramedics got there, her heart had stopped. Flatlined – dead…
With drugs and physical intervention, they revived her, only to have her OD on the stuff they revived her with. This caused her heart to stop again. Once again they revived her again. This time it stuck.
She’s alive and well and part of the knitting group Denise attends on Tuesday nights.
Advair was one of the medications she diligently used to prep herself for the vacation.

Bad etiquette! What have I gotten myself into?
Well, I responded to a post on my wife’s blog http://www.knitchat.com, but it turns out that her post is what’s called a “meme” which means I MUST post my response on my blog and refer back to hers and include the original meme. So, I am doing so now.
BUT WAIT!!!! It turns out that this meme thing is REALLY interesting… I always thought these things were called “Me! Me!”s…
They’re not. According to the Wikipedia , it’s pronounced as Meem and it’s a term that refers to self propagating knowledge that is passed down from generation to generation. Impressions of the Developer Studio 2006 World Tour
1. Abstract
The Borland Developer Tools Group is doing a world wide tour to demonstrate the usability and productivity of the Borland Developer Studio. They are also trying to send a clear message to their devoted developers that the Delphi divestment doesn’t denote Dooms Day.
2. Overview
I attended the May 31, 2006, Columbus, Ohio event hosted by Anders Ohlsson. Anders’ official title, with Borland, is Staff Engineer. But it’s worse than that. He’s really in marketing.
Despite that, he’s congenial, intelligent and knows his stuff fairly well.
During the presentation he fielded many questions from the the audience. One thing that surpised me was the standard response to questions that he could not answer. He didn’t say contact support or even look at the FAQ on our website. Consistenly he said “Go to the blogs.”. I even doodled that in big bold letters across the top of one of my pages of notes. “Go to the Blogs” was the response to questions ranging from specific code upgrade issues to queries like “What’s the latest dirt on Dev Co?”.
BTW, the most important place to look for answers is the blog of Borland’s Chief scientist Allen Bauer, “The Oracle of Delphi”. He’s who has most freely discussed matters regarding the spin off of the developer tools. NOTE: Anders’ wording and hesitation in that sentence led me to believe Bauer had been a bit more liberal with discussing the matter than he had been been authorized to OR perhaps that the tighter leash on everyone else was chaffing a bit.. It was clear that there was definitely a list of items that could (and likewise could not) be discussed by Borland employees.
